San Sebastián, Spain — Summer 2022
While staying in Pamplona, I took a quick weekend trip north to the coast to visit San Sebastián — a place I knew surprisingly little about at the time, despite its reputation as one of Spain’s premier seaside destinations.
The weather didn’t exactly cooperate. Overcast skies and light rain lingered throughout my visit, softening the coastline in a moody, quiet way. Even still, the beauty of the city was undeniable: pristine beaches, grand belle-époque architecture, and scenic promenades curving along the water.
I wandered through Plaza de la Constitución, admiring the elegant balconies and warm stone facades. I discovered what might be the best Basque cheesecake I’ve ever tasted — incredibly creamy, lightly caramelized, and perfect with the salty sea air. The pintxos were just as good as promised, even on a rainy day.
Although my time here was brief, San Sebastián left a strong impression. I’d love to return for a longer stay someday — preferably under blue skies, with a towel on the sand and a swim in the Bay of La Concha.
